Rough driving engine

I have a 1993 VW Passat GLX VR6. When I start the car the engine the idle bounces between 1200 and 1800 rpms. When I put the car in reverse or drive the engine continues to try to bounce around between 1200 and 1800 rpms. You can also feel it when you are driving slow enough, in any gear, for the engine to run below 2000 rpms. What may be wrong and how may I fix it?

Pull off your fuel line to see if your getting fuel. If you proporly timed your engine then distributor positioning should have nothing to do with it starting.

1. Pull off fuel line where it connects to the fuel rail

2. Put a bucket underneath

3. Have someone turn on the car but not crank it, just turn the key to where the fuel pump runs.

4. If fuel comes out then put it all back together recheck your firing order.
