Coolant leak

1999 VW Passat V6 engine, 115,000 miles: There are two hoses that run from my Coolant Expansion tank. I know one is located at the top of the tank and runs to the radiator. The other runs from the bottom of the tank and travels to the bottom part of the engine to the passengers side of the vehicle. The coolant leak seems to be where this hose meets another assembly but I'm not sure what this assembly is.(Coolant pump?) The assembly the hose is connecting to seems to have coolant on it is well so it is hard to tell if the leak is where the hose meets the assembly (maybe a bad clamp) or if the leak is within the assembly itself. What is the assembly the hose is connected to? How can I pinpoint the leak? Will I have to drain the entire coolant system to fix this problem?

Can you please take a picture for us to help you better?

To pinpoint it better turn on the car and be careful and take a light and a cloth and wipe off hte part where the leak is and follow it to its orgin and you should be able to see if its a crack or a bad clamp.

Also yes you would have to drain the system if it is at the bottom of the engine unless you want to plug it, this would be a good time to flush out hte radiator and coolant system.
