2005 VW Beetle battery removal

Does anyone know how to remove a battery from a 2005 VW Beetle? My warranty has expired, the car has 44,000 miles and today when I turned the key I heard a loud POP, similar to a loud pop gun sound.
My husband has crawled underneath and found 4 screws and unscrewed them but the battery is still nudged tight.
The battery has the side blown out. Husband thinks that is due to the 110 degree heat. Now he is wanting to jump the car and drive it to the VW shop. If indeed he does get the car started by jumping will this cause MORE problems to the electronics? My husband is NOT a mechanic!
Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks

No! Don't try and jump start it. Even if you did get the engine to start (which I doubt you could do without a battery), you would most likely tear up the alternator. I don't own a Beetle so I'm not sure of how to remove the battery, but if you absolutely can not replace the battery either have it towed, or call AAA and see if they will come change it for you (You might compare this via towing it to see which would cost less).
