I just bought a 2002 Jetta to find a few problems. I found out that the weird noise was coming from the timing belts location in the casing. I figure I could take off the cover for the timing belt, but I need a expert's opinion. I could make a video if you like. I have a couple of other issues too, there is a small leak, and the engine light came on. Hope the engine's timing is not off. I'm also under suspicion that the engine light sensor is out as well. I don't want to ask too many questions at once, but just thought you should know some of the other problems. I did buy the manual for the car. Do you think I could use the manual as a guide for the sensor and timing belt?

I think this site is great I will love to support it, especially for poor College kids like my self.

A physical inspection would be good for the t-belt noise. Look for any of the wheel (idler or tensioner) to be leaning a little like a bearing might be bad. Wasit a coolant leak? If the w/pump is driven by the t-belt, that might be the noise (bad water pump) Your manual should be able to help you through any mechanical repairs like this. Need to have the PCM (powertrain control module) scanned for codes, this is the reason the check engine light is on. Get back with the exact code/codes. I would remove the timing cover and inspect the timing belt for cracks while means it need to be replaced.
