2001 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 80000 miles

Dealership says I need a new timing belt and that the costs $700. Not believing what I heard I checked on line and found the timing belt kit for 70. Is there something in the installation of the timing belt in this model that might require extra work or additional replacement parts that I need to know about?

Some earlier model Jettas require you change the water pump, pulley and tensioner at the same time you replace the Timing belt. These items wear out as well. Typically they charge a 3+hr job, pluse the expensive coolant. If you plan on keeping the car, it is worth it and it would be wise to get it done at at a reputable place :D
