Where is the camshaft position sensor on a 2000 vw jetta

Yes, there is a CMP sensor on the AEG engine.

The connector is located under the engine shroud R/H (passenger side) of the engine between the cyl head and the valve cover. It does have a metal bracket that wraps around to the camshaft area (timing belt) on the cyl head.
