I have a 97 Jetta A/T that seems to be stuck in the 3rd gear limp home mode. I have CELS for B1S1 O2S, MAF sensor, Torque Converter solenoid, Shift solenoid D, ECM output issue? And incorrect gear ratios. I am replacing the O2S and MAF today but if this does not fix the issue what is the next step to go towards? Check trans level (would have already done but it's a sealed unit), or replace solenoids, where are these located? Also have read on AllData it could be a possible grounding issue? PLEASE HELP as I am already ~2weeks over for smog test! THANK YOU in advanced!

I have the same problem with my wife's Passat, I have gone crazy trying to fix it only because she loves the car, I have changed the computer. I've changed valve body, the solenoids, with no luck, I finally just took the transmission out and put a manual in it, and save me a lot of time and money and energy. If you liked the automatic. The early models that were not electronic will bolt right up, so you think about it and let me know.
