Air Conditioning problem
1996 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

My vents always seem to blow out air but the a/c doesn't work meaning the compressor is kicking on but still no cold air. It is over full of freon and had to release some sine that wasn't the problem. NEED HELP PLEASE! WIFE HOT IN CAR. I hear the clicking when you turn on the ac but no cold air and no one around that works on vw's thanks

Hi there,

You will need to get the A/C system pressures check, if you say the refrigerant is over full, this may affect the High pressure cut out switch, shutting down the system. Any A/C tech can check this for you.

I live in a small area where the closest dealership is two and half hours away. So I thought about trading my jetta for a 97 firebird with air and a clean engine for 3500.00 quite the steal. Anyone with an opinion on the Firebird. The parts seem to be cheaper and I can't find anyone close by the will work on my vw. They say that they are built differently and its better to find someone that knows the car rather than just assuming. Any thoughts?

Hi there,

I can't comment on the car you have chosen as don't know them, (I'm in Aust) With systems like the A/C these are the same in every car, in theory just the applications vary, so diagnostics should not be an issue. As for maintaince & repairs, yes you may need someone more familiar with these cars, so choosing something a bit more practical may be a wise choice.
