Electrical problem
1997 Volkswagen GTI 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

started off the front drivers side door lock stopped working, the key would turn but nothing would happen so I was able to open the doors from passengers side by turning the key twice, that would open all doors and deactivate the anti theft system now the passenger side won't work either and if I open the car without the key the alarm will sound and immobilize the ignition. Is there anything I can do to prevent this and get into the car, or disarm the alarm without using the key in the lock as it doesn't work on either lock?

The door lock cylinder is probably broken. It breaks in the middle and won't turn the switch on the lock actuator.
The dealer should carry a complete rebuild/update kit.
