1998 Volkswagen Golf rear passenge door

1998 Volkswagen Golf

My rear passenger door will not close. I cannot lock it! Any suggestions? I have tried wd40 with no luck. It's parked on the street with just string holding it closed! Any help would be greatfully appreciated.

Hope I can help with this.

It sounds like the door lock may have failed. When the lock " dead locks " it can either not lock, or not unlock.
My suggestions is to take it to your local garage, if you have one, and ask them to remove the door panel from the rear passenger door and try see if the door lock can be manually locked by hand. If it can, then the door lock may still be able to be saved. If not, the lock may need replacing.
