i replaced a motor in a 95 golf and i had to use the old ditributor cause the other one didnt have on...so i think the timing is off.how do i fix this on these cars

Hi feverinsiidethestorm,

You need to get the static timing of the distributor correct.

Turn engine to No 1 cylinder at TDC on compression stroke, ie, with valves opening overlapping on Cylinder 4.

Refer to mark on distributor for No 1 firing and plug distributor in. After distributor is seated, rotor should be pointing at No 1 wire point on cap.
