I need to no how to adjust my intake and exhaust valves on my 1972 1600 vw engine.

Set the intake to.004 and exhaust to.006. Pry down the valve cover bails, remove the valve covers. Turn the crankshaft to TDC and set the valves on cylinder 1. Loosen the locknut, back off the tappet with a screwdriver with a blade thin enough to fit inside the 13 mm wrench for the locknut. Push with your thumb against the pushrod end of the rocker to take out any slack. Turn the tappet in until the feeler gauge just drags between it and the valve stem. Hold the tappet with the screwdriver while you tighten the nut. Check again to make sure tightening the nut didn't reduce the gap. Be patient and take your time. Turn the crankshaft backward 90 degrees and do cylinder no. 2, and so on for all four cylinders (at least I think I remember it's 90 degrees each cylinder. In any event, make sure both valves are completely closed.
