1972 Volkswagen Beetle fuel pump

Hi I have a 1972 bug I just put a new mechanical fuel pump in witha new push rod flange gaskets I have the right fuel pump and push rod but sill won, t get gas to tha carburetor I get gas to the filter and pump buy sucking on the line but when I turn it over it won, t pump the rod seems to go up and measures 1/2 inch but wont come down when I turn it buy hand any suggestions would be appreciated thanks alot

Have you checked to see whether it pumps past the filter to the end of the hose that attaches to the carburetor? If so, you may want to check the float valve in the carburetor.

The pump does not pump at all if I suck on the line then I get fuel carburetor is a new weber

Maybe you've got a post-1973 pump, which has a shorter pushrod.

Do you guys actually read the question before you answer it because I believe I said in my first question that I had the right pump and rod and the dementons where correct but i, m going with a electric pump and regulator thanks for the big help
