Car was driving fine. After a road trip, the car started to idle rough when stopped or at low speed. I got a P0016 code. I changed the camshaft position sensor and the idle got severely rough and now the motor misfires. Car even shuts down after a minute or 2. I then changed the crankshaft sensor and same results. The car is not drivable at this point. What else could be causing the misfire and rough idle? The car hasn’t run long enough or been driven in this condition to have messed up the timing belt. Or has it? I’m so lost right now.

Hi,

If this is the only code that we have then we need to dig further with this because there are more causes then just the sensor.

Here is the test for this code. Most of the time the sensor is the issue however, if you changed that and still have the issue then we need to check the wiring for high resistance or an open, a short to power or ground. If the wiring checks out and you are not getting the proper voltage to the sensor then the ECM is the issue. Following this procedure will walk you through that.

Let me know if you have questions or what you find. Thanks
