Vehicle will not shift out of first gear

While I am driving my SUV stays in first gear about thirty five mph and will not shift, but if I put it in low two if will let me drive sixty mph. But, will not shift gears an stay about 5000 rpm. What is the problem?

Have a transmission professional scan for codes it may be electrical or a governor/valve body problem. If you shift manually into drive and it does not go it is probably in what is called limp mode and may have internal problem like clutch failure.
