Under hood backfire

Over past 2 years, six or so times, a loud pop, smoke, upon second start of day. (Drove two blocks, stopped car. Backfire under hood upon start half an hour later). Changed plugs and wires at Pep Boys yesterday. The backfire under hood happened when he first attempted to start car to move to a work stall. Scared the mechanic. He had no idea what would cause it. Changed plugs and wires (which is why I brought my car there thinking that was the problem, and mechanic doubted that was the issue but changed them anyway) and sent me on my way. I just searched causes, and found your "How to Fix Engine Backfires in Under 30 Minutes". I am in Tarzana, CA. Wish I were closer to you guys. Any idea how much I may have to spend to get this diagnosed properly and fixed?

Hello,

It's hard to say, but it is more than likely going to be fuel related, like a leaky injector that is leaking feul down into the cylinder. We do not actually work on vehicles. Instead we offer professional advise on how to fix your vehicle yourself. Please go through the tutorial again and you should be able to track the problem down yourself. If you run into problems are get stuck you can always write back to us and together we will get it figured out. We are here to help. Please get back to us with what you find out going through the tutorial.

Thanks,
Alex

Thank you so much, Alex. Your tutorial has helped to educate me on what is likely. I am a senior lady unfortunately, and not able to do my own repair. But, now I will study the tutorial, so that when I find a good mechanic, I will know what it is that he finds. Thanks a million.
