My truck was making a bad squealing noise when accelerating into 1st and 2nd, so I replaced all 3 belts: Alternator/fan, Power steering, AC. After replacing the truck will not start it just makes a single click noise. Only the dome light will turn on in the interior. Radio headlights and dash lights will not turn on except battery light when turning ignition. Gauges do not work. Recently had engine light came on days prior about o2 sensor going. Idk if that is relevant. The alternator was replaced 4 weeks ago. Battery is charged.

Hi,

If I'm understanding correctly, it sounds like basically, you lost power to nearly everything. Is that correct?

If so, check to make sure the battery is fully charged, and the terminals are both clean and tight. If they are, can you tell if the click you hear is coming from the starter motor? Is the ground cable between the battery and engine block in good condition, clean, and tight?

Let me know as much as you can. Also, let me know if anything was disconnected when the belts were replaced or if by chance something shorted on the alternator while working on the vehicle. In general, it sounds like a faulty battery. See what happens if you try to jump-start it. Also, I realize the battery is charged, but it can short internally and fail under a load. If you question that as a possibility, remove the battery and have it load tested at a parts store.

As a side note, if it is the starter that makes the click, chances are there is a weak connection at some point, so let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Hey Joe, thank you for the reply. It ended up being a blown 80a fuse caused by leaving the negative battery terminal on while working on the car. Truck runs again.
