No, it would cause the fluid to heat up and you would notice it burned color or varnish.

Only if the leak is enough to allow the fluid to be low enough that the transmission will not engage into gear.

What about the cable for shifting? You said you were going to check it and adjust it.

Haven't done it get. Don't know which direction to turn what every it is that needs to be turned. I found where to adjust it but have done it yet.

You can move it one way and drive it. You should see a difference in the shift points. If it makes the issue worse, then go back and adjust the cable the opposite direction until the shift points are correct.
