I had the transmission (6R80) rebuilt by an independent shop in January. A couple of months after the transmission was rebuilt, the truck wouldn't start. I took it to a Ford dealership after that and they said the manual shift linkage had broken off at the valve body and the entire valve body would need to be replaced. Is the internal shift linkage something that should have been done in the transmission rebuild or is it a separate issue? The mechanic that rebuilt the transmission offers a 1-year warranty, excluding the valve body, TCM, and external electronics. Thank you for your help!

If I am reading your description right, then the external shift cable and manual lever are okay. The transmission range sensor for this transmission is part of the molded lead frame. This is no. 1 in the valve body diagram. This can be replaced apart from the mechatronics (main control valve body), but it will need to be reprogrammed. The only piece I can think of that could have broken is the small tab that operates the range sensor. See no. 3 in the attached diagram. Please let me know if this helps.

Thank you for the reply, yes, the external parts are fine. I have attached a picture that the mechanic sent to show what is broken. I am having a hard time making out where the piece is broken off from. They sent me a picture of the same type of transmission as mine and circled what looks like #2 in the second diagram you posted. I am wondering if that is a result from an incorrect transmission rebuild or if it is unrelated. Thanks again!

From what I can tell, the piece broken off in the picture you provided is number 3 in the closeup I posted. It's just a different angle. In my opinion, if the damage was done during the previous repair, I feel like you would have had a problem a lot sooner than 3 months.
