My car will engage into reverse, but will not engage into drive. Checked the oil, it is fine. Checked the CV shafts, they are working properly. The car seems like it wants to engage into drive, but will not.

Good morning.

What condition is the fluid? Is it dark or dirty? The bad thing is that the filter is internal and not accessible from the outside.

The fact it goes into reverse tells me it is possible the forward clutches are worn out. this would require an overhaul.

Is the check engine light on?

The oil is normal. It is not dirty or dark. A friend suggested it is possible the shifting solenoid could be out, or the neutral safety switch. The check engine light is on, but when my brother in law hooked the computer to it, it did not show any codes.

Okay, there is no sensor or switch for engagement of forward gears. That is mechanical.

You have an internal failure in the transmission not allowing clutch engagement.

Sorry for the bad news but you need either a replacement transmission or a used transmission.

I figured as much. Looking to find a used transmission in my area, but there are no cars in my year model. So I am trying to find any other vehicles that may be compatible or in comparison and have the same transmission and would fit.
