The tail shaft leaks due to a crack in the extension housing. The existing cover is 10.25 inches long and is only available thru Ford. The new cover that was ordered for me is 11.5 inches long. According to the parts department computers there is no other shaft cover listed for my VIN number. What now?
The number on the existing part is RF-F3LP-7A040-AA. Basic 46A.

The part that was ordered is RF-F3UP—6A040-AA. Basic 62

Good afternoon,

I found the part on eBay for you.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/4r70w-transmission-extension-housing-rf-f3lp-7a040-aa-2wd-10-5-WITH-VSS-HOLE-/222668395751

I bet they ordered the one for the 4R100 transmission. You have a 4R70.

Roy

Remove the driveshaft.

Jack up the transmission on the pan to take the weight off the mount.

Release the 2 bolts holding the transmission mount to the crossmember.

Remove the bolts holding the housing to the transmission.

Make sure you use a new gasket and seal.

That is the exact part number you requested for the repair. It fits many years with the same transmission.
