Good morning, I have quite a question/story. I am living down in Mexico. So I have a 2013 2.5 liter automatic (tiptronic) 6 speed, VW Jetta with approximately 126,000 kms. Here is the problem/story. So it had some electrical issues: the windshield wiper motor needs to be changed, the electric window switch does not operate correctly, etc. BUT the main problem is the transmission. One day the shifter would not move. This has happened before when the battery was dead. However the battery is new and completely good (tested it). The car starts and runs well-but the shifter will not move. The fluid has a good level (checked) and it was changed about 2 years ago. So, my workers, mistakenly, took the car to a small garage (kind of) here. Long story short they STOLE the module that controls the transmission (the smaller computer I believe is for controlling the shifting of the transmission-not the larger main computer). However, I got a used one from the USA and installed it. The transmission still does not move (also the problem was there before they stole the original one). So, I brought it to the VW dealership to see the actual problem codes. However, the scanner showed that it could not communicate with the transmission computer, hence they want to change Everything on the transmission. This is ridiculous. Here the codes are listed for you to see:(I am translating the best I can the names of the parts/messages from the scanner)2 codes of memory: 10 22 00 $522 01314 004 Unit of control of motor: without signal/communication$523 01315 004 Control unit of the shifting: without signal/no communication0001: Motor Electronicscode: 75U0101 49409 000 Shifting control unit without communication ERRORSTATEP068A $68A01674 000 Principal relay open error stat SPORADICECU 0002: Electrconics of Shifter ControlTrans control ModuleCode: 20849$522/01314 0004 control unit for shifting/without signal/communication$523/01315 004 Same as aboveECU 008 AC Electrical for AC (AC does not work)00 10 00 20 02U111100 $D11100/13701376 Partial functioning for fault of partial messagesECU 0009 Central Electric/Electronics Code: 2E 60 00 00 00 30 00 00 00 00 00$CE5/03301 008 Closed door on the conductor no plausible signalERRORSTATS$DFF 03583 007 Windshield wipers Short cuircuit $4D 00077 004 Without signal so these are the error codes. Please let me know if these do not make sense. I believe there is no signal from the transmission computer because it needs to be synced or matched with the system when it was changed? Any ideas and help will be greatly appreciated! The problem was there before the computer for the transmission was changed but I think there are no sensor signals as the new computer is not working correctly with the system. I believe the original problem when the shifter did not move was a sensor that was bad. There is a yellow button under the console to move the car for towing, etc. The shifter moves and operates fine (but will only stay in first gear) through all the gears when the yellow button is pressed, but it will not 'drive' normally. Thanks again in advance! Ryan

Hello,

Yes, the new transmission control module will need to be programmed to the car. it should cost about $130.00 (US) or it wont work and cause other issues as well.

To be sure they must scan the can to see what it not operational. here is a video:

Please let us know what you find. We are interested to see what it is.

Hello Ken,

Thank you for your answer to the question! I appreciate that and the video link. I went to the VW dealership. They said because the code says 'no communication' programming the new computer will not work. This seems completely wrong. They said that if it gave codes and bad signals then it would need to be programmed. They said new computers do not need to be programmed-they are just plugged in and they work immediately. I appreciate further help as here in Mexico they are very uniformed and do not seem to be good mechanics at all, especially with diagnosis of problems.
Thanks again in advance,
Ryan

That does not sound right because each computer has its own set of registration codes to code it to that particular car unless the newer VW self initializes which I have not seen before.
