Car was fine went to drive in the morning and car started fine went to put in gear and the car did not move. The shifter just does not do anything in any gear but grinds when you put it back in park. It will not engage-nothing in reverse either.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

If it grinds when you place it back into park, that tells me the transmission is working but is not attached to anything. Internally, the output shaft is turning but is detached from another component. The result, it grinds when placed into park. It is the same as if everything was working properly, you were moving, and placed the shifter into park.

First, check and confirm there are no broken axles or CV joints.

Here is a link that shows the component I am talking about:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-a-cv-joint-works

If one of these axles or CV joints is broken or disconnected, the car will not move.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe
