Had shuttering and shaking going on for a week. Then all of a sudden, the engine light came on and I have no reverse, but still drives forward. Then 4 hours later no engine light on and reverse works but now shutters when I drive forward. What would cause this?

Hi,

First, the shuddering you feel is likely the clutches slipping, so we need to determine the cause before it needs to be rebuilt.

The first thing that comes to mind is there is low line pressure in the transmission. It could be caused by a few things, but most commonly, it is the result of dirty or low transmission fluid. So that is where I need you to start.

This vehicle doesn't have a traditional transmission dipstick. Instead, you will need to remove the fill port bolt and check it from under the vehicle. Note: You can't just lift the front of the vehicle to check. The vehicle needs to be level.

I attached the directions specific to your vehicle below.

Do this and let me know the results.

Take care,

Joe
