Transmission issue?

I have a transmission issue in my automatic car listed above LE model. The transmission oil is leaking from the passenger side axle since the seal is missing which seals the axle and the transmission. I showed it to two different mechanics, one of them said that I need to change the whole transmission itself. The other said that he will change the axle and the seal (the axle because the tire runs strange). Also, there is a jump in the car when it shifts from gear 1 to gear 2 but after that shifting is smooth. The car has 120,000 miles on it. I need an economic solution to this please.

Hi,

If it is leaking where the CV axle enters the transmission, chances are it is only a seal/dust cover that has failed. See pic 1.

I have no idea why the transmission itself would need to be replaced unless something is cracked. Next, if the CV axle isn't making sense to me unless there is a known issue with the CV joints. Have you ever heard clicking while you make a sharp turn? What does he mean by the tire isn't running true? If the tire has excessive play, I would suspect the hub/wheel bearing and not the axle.

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe
