I need to drain and fill my transmission which is all good, my issue is my scanner doesn't log transmission temperature on live data at least to my knowledge. Can I go off coolant temperature in order to get an idea of when I have 'warmed' it up enough to cycle the new fluid before checking/adding until it drizzles from the level plug? I'm also wondering if a 2013 JX35 transmission dipstick would fit the fill tube on my model year and read correctly?

Generally if the engine is up to operating temperature, you should be okay. Make sure you use the Nissan NS-3 CVT Fluid (or Infiniti equivalent).

Because the transmission will not work if you use any other fluid.
CAUTION:
- Always use shop paper. Never use shop cloth.
- Replace a drain plug gasket with new ones at the final stage of the operation when installing.
- Use caution when looking into the drain hole as there is a risk of dripping fluid entering the eye.
- After replacement, always perform CVT fluid leakage check.
1. Select "Data Monitor" in "TRANSMISSION" using CONSULT.
2. Select "FLUID TEMP" and confirm that the CVT fluid temperature is 40 C (104 F) or less.
3. Check that the selector lever is in the "P" position, then completely engage the parking brake.
4. Lift up the vehicle.
5. Remove the drain plug and drain the CVT fluid from the oil pan. Refer to "Exploded View" See: Fluid Pan, CVT > Removal and Replacement > Exploded View.
6. Install the drain plug to oil pan.

CAUTION:
Drain plug gasket use the old one.
7. Remove the overflow plug (1) from converter housing.

Let us know if you need anything else.

I bought the canister filter to replace it as I don't plan on dropping the pan and doing that filter and gasket. What should I be on the lookout for when filling? Is it a slow drizzle out of the overflow plug or a steady flow as far as rate of flow once full and warmed up?

Yes, the fluid level should be close to nothing as it the engine warms up, it is like the old style of manual transmission, I forgot to add the fill plug location for clarity. Check out the images (below).

Great news I finally got a way to read trans temp so run the car until normal temp then drain all thst will come out and replace just that. Then run through the gears until hot with new fluid and pull the check plug and add until it comes out, correct?

It should be about 4 quarts of fluid. When refilling make sure the engine is warm and run the transmission through the gears as well.

So all went good as far as swapping the filter because the drain bolt will not move and seems like it's been stripped or cross threaded because nothing fit on the head of it and it seems like the one time use (get the vehicle to the shop) plugs that can be installed. So I'm left to siphoning. Is the dipstick tube seem realistic to try and get it out of?

There is no dipstick tube FYI, just a fill plug which the fluid will run out of when full. I would remove the transmission pan and repair the drain plug because if it is stripped it will leak. Please go over the image in the above post.

The what should be dipstick/filltube is what I'm asking about for siphoning out of until I can get a new pan and gasket here. So close to 4qts roughly is what I should expect. Thank you
