Transmission and transfer case in the vehicle listed above SLT is finished. I have a 1998 Ram 1500 V8 Magnum 2 wheel drive, 3 speed automatic transmission, 5.2 liter engine, that I keep for parts. Has 140,000 miles on it. The Dakota SLT also has a 3 speed automatic transmission. I have no need for the 4wd anymore so it will be 2wd. Will the transmissions and transfer case interchange?

This is a possibility to work but we need to clarify two things. First can you provide the last eight of both VINs and I can look up to see which specific transmissions they have?

Next, it was a little confusing what you are trying to do. Basically you are looking to make the Dakota a 2WD using the transmission out of the Ram? You asked if the transmission and transfer case will interchange, but if you are making it a 2WD then we don't need to worry about the transfer case, correct?

Please see below for the differences in the transmissions. Basically you have a 46 in the Dakota and a 47 in the Ram. You could have the exact same unit so we need to check the VINs and make sure that is the case.

If this is possible, you are going to have to think about a custom cut driveshaft because neither will fit most likely.

Please let us know and we can go from there. Thanks
