Shifter linkage cable

Start truck and shift lever will go down but after column 3 it feels like the shifter will not engage a gear, like there are no gears left try. Returning shifter back to park and it extremely hard cannot shut truck off until it gets to park. Once getting the truck to drive the transmission will make it up to forty five and descend speed even if you have gas pedal down.
