Hello, my cars transmission had a crack and fluid leaked out and the clutches were bad. So I got a transmission from the wrecking yard, same year and everything. So I had this transmission new clutches rebuilt from a guy in his garage for a low price. We installed the transmission and it takes a while to change gears, the car will not go over fifty mph up hill, but it does fine and goes well over seventy five mph on a flat road.
Did the guy who rebuilt the transmission not adjust something right or not put in something right?
Also, it is a four wheel drive auto, is a P R N D 2 1 a three speed or four speed?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com That is a tough one to call. I have some questions for you. When going up hill, does the engine RPM's increase and the vehicle speed not increase? Also, you listed it as a two wheel drive but in the post it says four wheel drive. Honestly, I am not finding anything on an all wheel drive for that year and specs you provided. Has the check engine light come on?

Please confirm engine size and drive for me.
And yes, it should be a four speed automatic.

Sorry I meant front wheel drive. No engine lights are on the engine runs great. I am not sure if the rpm go up I am sure they do my instrument panel only displays speed, gas, temperature. When I drive uphill it sounds like the engine is working hard I even put the pedal to the floor and it still would not go past fifty mph uphill. So is a four speed not a three speed, I was told if it had overdrive than it is a four speed mine does not have overdrive.

To the best of my knowledge, by 1997, they were all four speed automatics. I have to be honest, since it sounds like the engine is working really hard, I have a feeling the clutches are slipping. Is there any way you could upload a video of it happening so I could actually hear the engine?
