I am in the fast lane rush hour traffic in LA. Traffic is stop and go, I step on the gas as traffic starts to move and it will not go forward. It just sounds like I am revving the engine. The tow truck driver that rescued me says it is probably the transmission. Fluid level is okay. Car has had thorough maintenance in the last year. My question is what would be a fair approximate price to repair or rebuild? I have a fixed income and cannot afford a new car payment. Should I scrap it or should I fix it?

With a car that old it will cost about $1,800.00 most places, but prices vary.
