This car has a V-6 engine. What would the automatic transmission capabilities for car listed above? I have a transmission out of a 1999 Contour that is a (PTAJ)F83P-CB automatic transmission {CD4E}2.5l V6 will that work in a 1997 ford Contour?

According to what I can find on various places they will not interchange. 1995-1997 will as long as it is from the same engine size. 1998-2000 it depends on the four digit code and engine size. From what I can find it is because they modified parts of the transmission on a regular basis and altered the programming in the controller to match the changes.
