Rear door hatch handle broke toyota told me $450. To repair is it possible to purchase a new handle or repair kit and fix it myself?

We had the rear done for $150 here in Houston at a local shop. I just didn't have time to do it myself. I believe the part was nearly $90 - 100. Don't remember where they got the part.

We've had both sliding door handles replaced also. They cost $25 new at local junkyards believe it or not, but they all come in black so you just buy paint at an auto store. One of the workers just painted it for me on the spot. I think installation labor at our body shop was $60-70 each, maybe less. In hindsight I bet the junkyard guy would have installed it cheaper and on the spot.

The junkyards seem to sell a lot of these so it's obvious Toyota has (or had) a quality problem.
