I brought a import last week, its done 161 on the clock. It was running fine, then I went to start it yesterday morning and all it did when I turned the key was click. I thought it was just the battery so I phoned the rac and they thought the same, he tested the battery and this was fine tried to start it again an nothing! The rac guy says it may be the cam belt? But other people have said it would snap while running and the engine would try to start. It wouldnt be fine trhe night before then snap while stood still. Have you any ideas on this? The people I brought it from have towed it back to have alook but I dont wont them fobbing me off so id like to be armed with lots of informtion if you can help pls

I have an estima import to the uk and had intermittent starting problems along with the dreaded click. Had to replace starter motor and been fine ever since.I found out the engine used is the same as the toyota picnic which is a uk spec vehicle and by luck the repairer had one on the shelf at a lot less than the import model. Be aware of the enine type ie 3C-TE in my cars case. Remember you cant tow or jump start an automatic. Ive also found that when car has been left sitting for a long time the battery needs to be fully charged to turn engine too even when the starter is ok.
Cost me £85 to replace it anyway, but was told it was an awkward job to do
. Best of luck
