Cable going to the air intake

1993 toyota 4x4 V6 a cable going to the air intake when disconnected the truck will start, only runs for about 5 sec. When pluged back will not start at all. I have a repair book and it says nothing about the cable. I have followed the cable from plug in to a box
and can not see were it goes from there. Can you help me

Your description sounds like the mass airflow meter-in this box do you see an airfilter lookiing

Cable-is it steel stranded looking wire or a connector that has atleast 7 wires on it.

Also is this box close to the alternator

It is a plug that has about 7 wires running to it

Open it up and inspect and test if not in specs by the book/manual and also cleaning it up

Replace it
