Electrical problem
1989 Toyota Pickup 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 205, 0 miles

Hello. Last week I had my coolant system flushed at a local shop. I have driven it twice since then and both times I have smelled electrical fumes. The second time I drove it, the alternater caught fire. I was able to put it out quickly, though I fear some minor harness damage. Question is... Is this a coincidence or something related to the work done at the shop. The water inlet hose is just barely above the alternator. Thanks much!

Hi, thanks for using 2Carpros.com. Yes coolant can cause the bearings inside the alternator to fail casuing your problem, the bearings were already starting to fail and the cooling system service could have finished the job. Bad timing.
