Hi there,

I own a 2002 Toyota Tazz 1.3, it has approx. 105 000 km mileage. Whenever I startup smoke emits from the exhaust. The colour is white and you can also get a strong smell of fuel. I let it run awhile before I drive off. Can you tell what the problem is? Is it safe for me to continue using my car? It's been like this for a few weeks now, I thought it could be due to the weather, we are in winter now. Please help. THKS

White smoke usually indicates a head gasket or possibly a cracked head. Have a compression test done to find out.
It will not fix itself and if it gets worse and coolant gets into the oil, you will destroy the main bearings.

As you get a moment,
1. By allowing it to run a while, I assume that the both the white smoke and smell go away?
2. Once the startup is completed, how does the vehicle run? Smooth and normal? Does the engine run hotter than what you're used to seeing? Are there any other smells that have come up recently?
