1981 Other Toyota Models alternator overcharging frying Volt

I have a 1981 toyota starlet and the voltage regulator is burning up I replaced the alternator and regulator. Checked the wiring and cannot find a short.

Check all connections on the battery and alternator-makes sure its wired correctly in accordance with the electrical wiring diagram.

Start the car -put a voltmeter on the battery what is the reading? Get back

The alternator is wired correctlty and the voltage reads 14.5 volts while running. But the voltage regulator is smoking

It could be the alternator field windings is shorted out-

If the field windings are inside the alternator that couldn't be it I replaced the alternator

There such thing as manufacture's defects-check your wiring and report back-regulator burning sounds like it not controlling the alternator
