97 Toyota Land Cruiser just started missing while under a load. Idle is fine and so is cruising. If I recall from past experiance, this is indicative of one or more plug wires failing. Is this correct or can it be something as simple as a spark plug fouling?

Hello,

Yes, it could be either or even both. When was the last time they were changed?

Also, is you engine light on? If so would help to get codes pulled and post them here.

There are a number of causes for an engine miss.

Vacuum Leak

Fouled Plugs

Bad Wires

Dirty Injectors

Failed Injectors

Plus others

The engine light was not on. It was running fine until I stopped and let it idle for about 10 minutes; when I started to take off again that is when the problem started. The plugs are in bad shape. The plug wires were replaced between 2 & 3 years ago.

If plugs are in bad shape then I would start by replacing them first to see if it fixes the miss.
