Engine problem
2000 Toyota Echo 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 210000 miles

ive got 2 codes from a diagnostic test for this 2000 echo PO171 and PO710. The first one Ive found out that the system is running too lean, was wondering the most common problem to fix this issue and what it will do if driven too long without repairing. The second code I think means A/T fluid temp sensor, was wondering how much to replace, where it is located and how easy it would be to do myself. Thanks

P0171 Lean conditions means its either too much air or not enough fuel

A lean fuel condition can be caused by:

* Low fuel pressure due to a weak pump or leaky fuel pressure regulator. (Use a fuel pressure gauge to check fuel pressure at idle)

* Dirty fuel injectors. (Try cleaning the injectors)

* Vacuum leaks at the intake manifold, vacuum hose connections or throttle body. (Use a vacuum gauge to check for low intake vacuum)

* Leaky EGR valve. (Check operation of EGR valve)

* Leaky PCV Valve or hose. (Check valve and hose connections)
