car no power

Hi
My friend has a 2000 corolla (100k km). As the car is idle , it run fine. But as pressing the gas pedal, it is no power. even pedal all the way down. It have engine light on and kind bad smell at muffler. I think the caltelic converter is blocked. Is it right? thank for your help

Disconnect the exhaust pipe up front or connnect a pressure gauge where the oxgen sensor is-anything over 3lbs calls for concern.

Before you disconnect an exhaust system you may need to check the timing. Those years were bad about belts/chains as it was the cross over year. If a belt and the little engine it,s timing belt time.
