Transmission problem
2004 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Automatic 34,000 miles

I brought my car in for an oil change and the mechanic said that he recommends at 30-40,000 miles that the transmission be serviced. He wasn't talking about just changing the fluid because he said the cost was about $120. He showed me the color of my new oil that was just put in and said that the color should be different than what he's seeing there.

Is he for real?

Hello,

What color is the tranny fluid? It should be redish/pink. Are you having any problems with the tranny? The recommended service for that vehicle is at about 90k miles. And $120 for tranny services sounds about right. It includes Filter and Fluid.

He didn't show me the tranny fluid color just the oil color but I will look at the tranny fluid. I am NOT having any problems with the tranny or anything else with the car. Glad that his price is right but why would he recommend this service at 30-40K when 90k is the recommended service?
Thank you

Ok, after looking a little more it says to inspect the tranny fluid at 30k 60k and 90k miles. It doesn't neccessarily mean to do a tranny service. As long as the fluid looks good and you're not have any problem I wouldn't worry about it. Most vehicles won't really need a filter and fluid change until about 60k or so.
