Recently I bought a second hand car - Toyota Corolla 2000 LE. When I stop at signal and accelerates when it is green, it moves slowly though I give more acceleration than normal. It used to happen once in a while and I'm living with it.

Today, in traffic, when I'm climbing a small hill, it slowed down almost full when I was at 30mph. Fortunately, I managed to go top of that hill and got down and drove 2 miles to reach home without any problem though I stopped at signals. This is the first time that happened to me at 30mph.

Please suggest me how could I fix this problem. Am I unlucky having this car?

Have fuel pressure checked with mechanical gauge. Inspect air filter for build up of dirt.

If the temp guage is creeping up I would suggest that the catalytic converter is somewhat plugged.

It is possible the convertor is clogged. Usually a clogged convertor will cause backfiring, and may run better cold than hot, but it is possible.

My car's temperature gauge is always slightly below to middle even in a long drive.

Yesterday, I checked air filter and it is looking white. I don't see any dust on it.

I think I may have to get fuel pressure checked.

Before I get it checked, I will take OBD codes from 'Advance auto parts' shop and will let you know.

Thanks a lot for trying to help me.

The upstream O2 sensor should be replaced, upstream sensor is before the convertor.

Yesterday, when I went for 25miles drive. Suddenly, engine light popped up. So, I checked error codes again. I erased codes and checked again and the output is as follows:

Error Codes:

None

I/M Monitors:

Misfire monitor > OK
Fuel system Monitor > OK
Comp Component > OK
Catalyst Monitor > OK
HTD Catalyst > N/A
Evap System monitor > Inc
Second air system > N/A
A/C refering monitor > N/A
Oxygen sensor monitor > Inc
Oxygent sensor heater > Inc
Egr system monitor > N/A

View Freeze frames:

None

What is INC?

After erasing codes, I didn't see any codes. I tried 3 to 4 times but I didn't get any error. Also, engine light is turned off.

Do you think that there is no problem with my car, now?

If car is performing normally, then just monitor the ckeck engine light, if it comes on again, have codes read and see what they say.

This entire episode may be a simple as a tank of bad gas, but keep an eye on it.

Is it? Everytime, I'm filling up gas at 7Eleven which is near to my home. I used to smell the smoke something different. Also, I used to get less MPG which is less than 24MPG which is not usual for Corolla. I should get at least 28MPG in city and 32MPG on highways.

For the first time, I went to "EXXON mobil" to fill gas tank.

I felt that car is going smooth than before. I don't know whether it is because of resetting codes or good gas.

Let me check MPG this time and will let you know.
