Transmission problem
1998 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

A few day ago the car was slowly rolling and the shift gear was slammed to park. Since then the ignition keys have been locked in on position. The keys turn from on to ignition, so the car turns on and off. And also the shift gear moves from park to first without the gear release buttom being pressed. Transmission works like normal except that the gear shift can be moved at any position while running. I know thats dangerous, any help on what I can do? Thanks

Hi kace79,

The key cannot be removed from the ignition lock because the interlock system has been damaged. The key lock is not being released to allow the key to be removed as the parking gear indicator is not sending the correct signal.

You would have to remove the gear console cover to check the linkages for the interlock at gear shift. Some linkages could have been dslodged or damaged.
