Running headlights turn on during day instead of night. Manual headlight switch will turn on but turn of after running. Fuses fine.

Hi there,

It sounds like the DRL module is out which is located behind the glove box but to be sure here is a wiring diagram and a guide to help you test to confirm the failure.

Check out the diagrams (Below)

Hi,

I checked the relays under the hoods ( 2 of them ) and they were good.
When I flick the hi beam I can only see the light in the dash board.

So I replaced the DRl module used for 35.00 and that fixed it! I love this site

Thanks a lot.

This can be the two affecting your problem. Inspect and test the head light relay located at engine room junction block and the DRL Daytime Running Lights relay behind the dash above the glove box. See below

Electrical problem
1998 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 172000 miles

3 years ago while replaceing the CD player the mechanic shorted some wires
Thereafter the Headlights stopped working (both low beam adn high beam). Also the running lights (daytime) would not work
The guy told me an IC needs to be replace - charged me 200 bucks. BUt this did not fix any of the issues
I removed the sencor on the dashboard (the red color one) and thereafter the running lights started working
Really appreciate what to do at this stage

Check and test the headlight relay and dimmer relay-NOTE: If the headlight relay goes the dimmer relay will not power up

High beam is working fine but the low beam isnt working.
I checked the fuses for the low beam. I checked the ends where the fuses go in to see if there is any current but there is none. (I turned the low beam on and checked with the multimeter).
I would like to know if there are any other fuses to be checked. Where is the headlight relay switch?
THanks.

Car Headlights and High beams do not operate when switch is selected for either.

I have researched and determined the following;

- Headlights turn on automatically in the DRL mode (both left and right)

- Headlights stay on when parking lights are selected.

- Activation of high beams in any mode turns off headlights

- Headlights turn off when Headlights are selected.

- All fuses related to headlights are functional

- All relays related to headlights appear to be functional based on lights working in DRL mode and clicking when high beams or headlights are selected

I am at a loss regarding what to check next.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Craig.

Check the light switch.
Do the high beam indicator shows on dash when selected?
Get a scan to check for body control module trouble codes.

You need to know how to go about testing wiring circuits to know what could be the cause of the problem. Guessing from what you have stated, the most likely cause is a faulty light switch.
