SHIFTER LIGHTING DOES NOT ILLUMINATE IS IT A BULB OR FUSE PROBLEM?

Check fuses first, otherwise you will have to remove shift console cover to replace light bulb.

Its the bulb I have the same car 97 corolla its kinda a pain to get the bulb out make sure you have plenty of time.

Best thing to do is to use car repair manual link in this thread or get a Haynes manual.

The console can be a pain to remove and has to be done in a certain sequence. Once you have replaced the bulbs, check their operation before you reinstall console.
