Replaced fuel tank and 2 new fuel pumps installed, replaced fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, throttle position sensor.
When accelerating rpms reach about 12-1500 and turns itself off till settling back to a idle. Do this several times and the engine shuts off and runs backwards for about 10-15 seconds, removed the covers and checked the timing, all on correctly, changed the belt just for insurance. Still the same problem. Sprayed starting fluid into the intake and it has no effect to mention, removed injectors, cleaned carbon out of intake (EFI), same thing happening.
Distributor lights timing light as it is dying to idle.
Any help appreciated.

Start by checking fuel pressure with mechanical gauge. Did you install 2 pumps on car?

I would suspect either coil or ignitor (ignition module).

If a 4AFE engine, it is actually cheaper to replace the entire distributor, w/ignitor than the ignitor itself.

The fact that starting fluid has no effect, indicates an ignition problem.
