I have a 95 Corolla with 59,000 miles. It runs well but shifts into 2nd gear a little hard and doesn't shift into 3rd gear until 50 mph. The fluid may be a bit high but is bright red and appears to have been changed by the previous owner. Please help. Thanks

If shifting is controlled by a cable (called a TV cable), then the cable may need adjusting.
Cable controlled trans. Have a cable that connects to the throttle body cam and then to the trans.

If controlled by vacuum, then check for leaks in the line.

This is something you want to get repaired quickly, if hydraulic pressure is low, it may beging slipping and that can cost you a new trans.

The shop is telling me the front pump is leaking and they are recommending a used or new transmission. Can't the pump seals be replaced?

Get another opinion, it may be necessary to remove trans to replace seals, but shop around, look for a family run business vs. A chain.
