My car idles when ever I try to accelerate. One thing is that in summer, when I try to start the car it starts right away but in cold, it does not start right away. Even though we changed the starter, because we thought its not starting because of starter but still same starting problem. And for the idling, we changed catalytic convertor, sparkplugs. But still nothing happened, when I try to accelerate it idles and when I try little hard, I hear a misfire. So I dont know what is the exact problem. Is it bad or dead fuel pump, oxygen sensor is bad or what. Please help me out on this one. The winter is coming and I need to get it fix before that. I dont want to waste money changing so many thing for this problem. I need to know the exact problem. Thanks

Check fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge. If OK, then check output of TPS. If you have low fuel pressure, you will have to replace fuel filter and recheck, if still low, you will have to replace the pump.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. My car used to run perfect till it came from one mechanic. What happened was that one time, I was driving this car and all of sudden it started to idle as if its out of gas and something and then it stopped. So it had to be towed and taken to mechanic. That mechanic told that the coil needed to be replaced. So they replaced it. Before this coil problem, the car never idled. Once they fixed the coil and we took our car from mechanic. It started to idle. And since then it is idling. It idles even when you try to give gas(accelerate) in parking gear. And one thing is that we have also changed the fuel filter but nothing happend. So now what are our options.

If I understand your question, the car will idle but not accelerate when you step on the gas?

Have the mechanical linkage between the gas pedal and the throttle body checked.

If OK, then (although you replaced the CAT), have a backpressure test performed on the CAT. This will tell you if the CAT is clogged.
