1995 Toyota Corolla Belt Squeal after Repair

1995 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl

I just replaced my alternator and when starting the car I get a very loud squeal from the belt. I checked the belt and it appears to be on correctly. It did not squeal before. Is this a tension problem? If so what is the best way to go about fixing this? Thanks.

Put a straight edge between the pulleys and measure belt deflection, shoud be 4mm.

My guess is that the belt somehow got contaminated with coolant, oil, grease. You will have to remove the belt, clean all the pulley surfaces and replace the belt
