I was changing the thermostat and one of the thermostat housing bolts broke off. It looks like the bolt is inserted from the backside, meaning that I think engine parts have to be removed to get at it. Has anyone else had this happen? How hard is it to replace this bolt?

Drain coolant and remove the entire assy. It bolts to the head, 2 studs and 1 bolt hold it to head.

I will be easier if you remove the dist.

You can repair the broken bolt with a helicoil.
